Homes, not rentals
We were able to source most of our upgrades from other Chicagoans on Marketplace, yard sales, and thrift stores. It was important that we did what we could to serve the community and not create more waste.
The library books in the living rooms were sourced locally, from libraries, personal collections and thrift stores. They were specifically chosen as books you would actually read.
Both apartments are filled with board games and puzzles, with more in the hall. There are real board games like Risk and Pandemic, Star Wars puzzles, Disney puzzles, and every Trivial Pursuit I can find, since for whatever reason I'm collecting them. I've tried to put games that make sense in each apartment.
There are real dried flowers throughout, which last and never need watering.

Our story
I'm Hannah, and I co-host for Vlad. Two years ago my partner and I rented with Vlad as guests. We became chosen family and decided once our reservation ended we didn't want to leave. So I made Vlad hire me so we didn't have to!
Vlad is the host of Hermitage House. He renovated the building himself, and I curated the homes. He's also a math teacher at a local school and a single father of twins. We chose Vlad and he chose us. With my experience in hospitality and his busy schedule, we joined together to build something special for our guests. Our goal is to give you the stay you deserve.
We work together. I live in the building and consider this place my home, so I'm always on the premises, and Vlad is close by and always a phone call away. You will be my new neighbors!
I also love to create local itineraries in my spare time, and would happily curate one for you. We want to show you the places that helped us fall in love with Chicago/Andersonville.
I love hospitality, and I loved creating these homes. We are very proud of our apartments and hope you feel as at-home as we always have.
We want our guests to feel like they're coming home, not just renting a space.
